Common questions
How long does it take to reach A1 German?
In this course, 8 weeks. You join four 90-minute live classes a week, which is about 48 hours of class time, plus short practice at home on most days. Students who have studied some German before can sometimes move faster after a free level check.
Which A1 certificate do I need for a spouse visa?
The German Embassy in Pakistan currently accepts A1 certificates from the Goethe-Institut, ÖSD, telc and TestDaF, and the certificate must be no older than one year when you apply. This course prepares you for the Goethe-Zertifikat A1 (Start Deutsch 1).
Does every spouse need an A1 certificate?
No. Some spouses are exempt, for example spouses of EU Blue Card holders and of non-German EU citizens. The rules depend on your partner's residence permit, so check the German Embassy's family reunion page before deciding to skip the exam.
What does the Goethe A1 exam test?
Four skills: listening (about 20 minutes), reading (25 minutes), writing (20 minutes) and speaking (about 15 minutes, in a small group). You show that you can use simple everyday German: introduce yourself, fill in a form, and ask and answer basic questions.
